"I belong to no race nor time. I am the eternal feminine with its string of beads." -Zora Neale Hurston.
Beads may be the oldest art form in existence; the earliest beads found, date back to 38,000 BC and beads hold cultural significance in most historic and contemporary societies. Beads and beadwork have been inextricably linked to women over time and are imbued with symbolism. By making beads and stranding them into artwork, I feel a deeper connection to my Indigenous roots, and celebrate the Eternal Feminine in Indigenous resilience and resurgence.
